The Child of the Forest

The Child of the Forest is the product of a month's work for a 2020 Game Production class at the University of Central Florida made in Unreal Engine 4. The development team consisted of nine students: three artists, four programmers, and two level designers.

The premise is that a young witch must use her ghostly powers to reunite with her lost cat familiar by overcoming forest obstacles.

My Role: Programmer

My main role on the project was the creation of several key game mechanics, accomplished using Unreal Engine 4’s visual scripting system. Specific systems I focused on were:

  • Respawn System

  • Character Swapping

  • “Ghost Float” Zero-Grav Zones

Along with these, I participated in general play testing and bug fixes, along with creation and implementation of the ‘toon’ and water shaders used within the game.
